#AccelerateAction

Biscuitville is proud to celebrate Women’s History Month. With this year’s International Women’s Day theme of #AccelerateAction, we’re honoring women who are helping to shape Biscuitville’s future through accelerated thinking and bringing others along for the journey. With that in mind, we’ve asked each of them:

As a woman in the workplace, what are you most passionate about? How does that passion help accelerate action in others?

Biscuitville VP of Marketing

“As a brand strategist and marketer, my passion has always been about understanding the guest–helping people see the opportunity through the guests’ eyes. With Biscuitville’s culture of serving others, I’ve found that’s been the most successful way to encourage our people toward action. To drive any initiative, I also believe it’s essential to be curious, to always be looking for opportunities–and, of course, to be collaborative.

As a human being, I’m passionate about women and their potential to create, influence, and impact the people around them–whether at home, school, or work. At this time in my career, I get the most joy from mentoring up-and-coming marketers and entrepreneurial women– hearing about their goals and aspirations and asking questions to keep them moving forward on their journey. Engaging with these motivated individuals keeps me inspired and growing, too.

In fact, I joined Biscuitville because of its female leadership. The last company where I worked was 90% male, so for me one of the appeals of coming to work here was the diverse leadership: Kathie Niven, our President and CEO; Belinda Kyle, our Chief People Officer; and the other women on the leadership team. It showed me that Biscuitville recognizes and elevates talent, regardless of gender.”

Biscuitville VP of Restaurant Excellence

“I’m deeply passionate about empowering people to reach their potential and creating an environment where growth is encouraged and supported. I’m always looking at how we can make sure everyone has access to the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to grow and thrive. We work with everyone, from crew members up through Area Directors, focusing on identifying opportunities for development, mentoring individuals, and creating initiatives that promote continuous learning and improvement.

Biscuitville is quite unique because 60% of our workforce is women. Our President and CEO is a woman, and I feel like women are equally represented–women’s voices are heard here. While certain jobs and positions were once considered to be ‘men’s jobs,’ nowadays that’s not true anymore…I think others can accelerate action by being proactive in supporting the women around them–people can start by actively listening to women’s ideas and ensuring that they have the same opportunities for growth and leadership as others. It’s important to create a culture where women are not only heard but also given the resources to succeed.”

Biscuitville Service Vendor Specialist

“I’m passionate about people. I’ve been at Biscuitville for 29 years, and I really do like the people I work with. My goal is to be genuine, and I’m a firm believer that people can tell if you are or you aren’t. You can always be polite, but people can feel it when you’re genuine. I’m also passionate about having a grateful spirit and staying positive. I’m thankful I work with our Operators. I’m glad I have the opportunity to help them when I can. When I’m grateful for what a vendor has done, when I’m thankful for their partnership, I try to let them know that.

I’ve also learned that it’s important to stand up for what you believe in–and to always be true to yourself. When a challenge begins to feel overwhelming, I think you have to remember to like yourself. While I believe in being kind and respectful to others, I also think it’s important to be kind and respectful to yourself.”

Biscuitville Operator, Lenoir, NC

“What am I most passionate about? Really, it’s my family that keeps me going–my children. It’s that, and seeing people grow. Seeing people, especially women, climbing up that ladder, makes you feel good that you helped with their journey. When I was younger and working, I’d get so upset when I saw management just kind of bark orders and never really jump in and help. It was always my goal, if I ever got into a management position, to never be like that. For me, it’s hands-on, getting in there and showing my team, this is what I expect, this is how it’s done. I’ll clean bathrooms, and I’ll wash dishes…we do everything.

Here at Biscuitville, I’m forever grateful that we have Kathie (Niven) as our President and CEO because she really does make it a great company. So does Kim Avery, our VP of Operations–I mean, those are the two women here that I look up to most, who inspire me to be more like them.”
