As a family-owned company, we’re big on traditions passed down with love from generation to generation – like our Southern hospitality and our family biscuit recipe that’s been at the heart of Biscuitville since we opened in 1966. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month this year, we’ve asked a few of our Hispanic team members to tell us about traditions they’ve grown up with and still hold dear today.

At our Battleground Ave. restaurant in Greensboro, Luis shares, “It’s a privilege to be Mexican and to have our culture.” And, for him, it’s all about Mexican food. One of his favorites is poblano peppers: “Steak torta with chili poblano, that’s my go-to.” He also has a soft spot for the fried donuts his grandmother made: “The recipe took two days – with cinnamon and sugar, deep-fried. That kept in my mind, all my life.”

For Biscuitville Marketing Intern Rubi, her favorite dish is Pozole Rojo, a traditional soup or stew with red chilies and pork or chicken, or both, which her mom learned to make from her grandmother. Her family also observes Día de Muertos, the day for celebrating loved ones who have passed by, putting out a picture of the deceased, perhaps along with their favorite dish, and lighting a candle in their memory.

One tradition that is important to team
member, Deisy, from our Battleground Ave.
restaurant, is celebrating Día de Muertos,
or Day of the Dead. Every November 1st
and 2nd, her family and friends gather to
remember and honor loved ones who have
passed away. Deisy also plans to share family
recipes with her kids, especially for soups
and tacos, her favorite!

Deyfilia, also from our Battleground Ave.
restaurant, still remembers her quinceañera:
“It was such a beautiful experience to have
my ‘sweet 15’ party.” Like Luis, she loves
the food she grew up with. Her parents are
from San Luis Potosí, Mexico, known for its
enchiladas potosinas – red tortillas stuffed
with mashed potatoes and chorizo sausage.
Deyfilia believes it’s important for her kids
not to forget where their family is from.
